Exciting Renewable Heat Payments Opportunity for Social Housing

Registered providers of social housing are invited to bid for up to £175,000 to support the installation of biomass boilers, solar thermal panels and heat pumps. An impressive £3 million is available to social housing projects in England, Scotland and Wales under the Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme; which will finance at least 17 renewable heat projects in social housing.

To benefit from the scheme completed applications must be received by the Energy Saving Trust by Thursday 15 Thursday 15 September 2011. After this time, the bids will be evaluated by a panel of experts on a number of criteria including installed heat capacity, value for money, opportunities for learning and the number of homes not supplied by mains gas.

After this time, if applicants are successful, they can start installing their renewable heat equipment as soon as they receive confirmation of their winning bid in early October.

Philip Sellwood, Chief Executive of the Energy Saving Trust notes that, “The only way to tackle the energy efficiency of our housing stock is to make it possible for everyone in our society to take action, and low carbon heating systems are a major part of this. The Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme goes a step further in bringing these technologies to more households.”
