27kWp Solar PV System: Aston University, Birmingham
In February 2013, Eco2Solar installed a 27kWp solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the Woodcock Sports Hall building at Aston University; to allow the project to meet the coveted BREEAM excellence rating. The console-mounted solar array comprises 106 Suntech 255W mono-crystalline panels, alongside one PowerOne 27.6 inverter.
The solar system is expected to produce approximately 22,183kWh of energy for the building each year, which will contribute towards the running costs of the facility alongside reducing its overall carbon footprint by 11,000kg annually. The renewable installation will also provide a tax-free annual income of £2,890 each year, which will be re-invested into the university’s facilities.
Following the installation our contractor, Speller Metcalfe, commented; “Eco 2Solar were again proactive in assisting Speller Metcalfe and the project design team in finding a solution for siting sufficient solar panels to achieve the BREEAM Excellent rating for the adjacent Woodcock Sports Hall Project. They responded very promptly to design queries to allow the necessary swift procurement of the PV array to keep the project on track for the targeted completion date.”
